El 24 de septiembre de 2007, la U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (Comisión de Valores de Estados Unidos) otorgó el registro a Standard & Poor's Ratings Services** como una organización de calificaciones con reconocimiento nacional ("NRSRO" por sus siglas en inglés para nationally recognized statistical rating organization) de acuerdo con la U.S. Credit Rating Agency Reform Act de 2006 (la "Ley"). El registro aplica a todas las siguientes cinco clases de calificaciones crediticias para las que una NRSRO puede registrarse de acuerdo con dicha Ley:

  • instituciones financieras, corredores, u operadores;
  • compañías de seguros;
  • emisores corporativos;
  • emisores de instrumentos respaldados con activos; y
  • emisores de instrumentos gubernamentales, títulos municipales o valores emitidos por un gobierno extranjero.
